"Russian Black Metal"

Can't read the band logo.

Hilarious. This one must be selling like hotcakes! Total "Who's on first?" there, too.

"Dude, have you heard that new Russian Black Metal CD?"

"No, man, what band is it from?"

"Russian Black Metal, dude."

"Yeah, right, you said that, man, but whose CD is it…?"

But what I really wanna know is: Why the hell do you stock something in your catalog if you don't even know what it is!?

"Worst" (meaning "best") movies ever…

Posted by the boy on Friday, June 22nd, 2007 @ 9:10 am | permalink

Everywhere you see the word "worst", I think what they really meant to say was "best"… especially regarding "Silent Night, Deadly Night 2"… 'cause that guy… that guy fuckin' rules.

There's a part two of this, but it actually sucks…

RadI have just been informed that "Rad", a.k.a. "The Greatest Movie Ever Made", the most criminally possibly-never-to-be-properly-released-on-DVD classic in the history of life, is now available on Google video.

This is awesome.

If you've never seen "Rad", that is a significant problem, and you need to fix it. Now. Watch.

This shit seriously almost makes me cry with joy…

You'll never get to me...

I've never been a huge Killing Joke fan - I have one or two of their early albums - but I heard this song from their most recent (2003) full-length last weekend and was intrigued, so I ordered the CD the next day. It's a decent album, but this one track that hooked me in is fucking killing me. Love it. I don't stumble upon many songs these days that can still hit me and trigger any kind of gut feeling like this, so I'm stunned. Can't get enough of this shit, though. Amazing…

The sad, sad life of a paparazzi in two photos.

Posted by the girl on Tuesday, June 12th, 2007 @ 11:38 am | permalink

The same man who photographed some of the horrors of the Vietnam War now takes pictures of Paris Hilton. Nick Ut won a Pulitzer for his photo of Kim Phuc running from napalm in 1972. He also helped save her life by bringing her to a hospital and pleading for her care. You can see the famous photo here.

And now, 35 years later, he is credited with photographing the horrors of Hilton. Both photos are seen around the world. Which do you think brought him more sadness?

Check out this link for a worthwhile read on Ut and the Napalm Girl.

There is nothing "worst" about Toto's Africa

Posted by the girl on Wednesday, June 6th, 2007 @ 1:47 pm | permalink

The BBC has ranked the top ten worst lyrics ever. Of course, such a task is impossible without limiting the list by some variable (genre, sales, decade, etc.). Anyhow, what I can't get past is how Toto's Africa could end up on ANY "worst" list. The song is nothing short of genius, even if I don't know what all the lyrics mean. The boy even made us a ringtone out of it.

And of all the lyrics in the song… well, these are just lovely. Mmmn. Silly Brits.

Mountain Dew + Chuck Norris = amazing.

Posted by the boy on Thursday, May 31st, 2007 @ 11:33 am | permalink

Yet another reason to love Mountain Dew (though I'm still trying - rather unsuccessfully - to stop drinking so much of that mess). I can remember when years ago they did a commercial with Steven Seagal, and now this. Priceless. Oh how I'd love to work for the ad agencies that get to shoot this stuff.

Their only mistake was that they didn't actually make a website for the "Chuck-strich". Someone with some free time on their hands needs to make that shit happen…

Our ringtones shit all over your ringtones…

Posted by the boy on Sunday, May 27th, 2007 @ 9:45 pm | permalink

That's all there is to it, really. I finally took the time to figure out how to make custom ringtones, and now we're set. There's absolutely no competition.

This is now my default ringtone. And this is the girl's.

I also made these:

another completely badass ringtone
and another completely badass ringtone
yet another completely badass ringtone
and one last completely badass ringtone

We win. The rest of the world loses.

Too bad I barely get any phone calls, though…

Holy. Shit. I can't wait until 2008 for this. No way. Talk about insane violence! And the grunting, ha!

"Rocky Balboa", "John Rambo"… now all we need is a "Cobra" sequel called "Marion Cobretti"!

Man, is he ever a "white boy"…

Posted by the boy on Tuesday, May 8th, 2007 @ 2:25 pm | permalink

For whatever reason, I keep seeing this damn video at the gym almost every day now, and I'm consistently bothered by the fact that the dude who sings "Play That Funky Music" ("…white boy!", yeah, that one) looks like this:

white boy

Yeeeow.

My Name is Earl hurts my head

Posted by the girl on Thursday, May 3rd, 2007 @ 5:42 pm | permalink

Is my brain turning to mush? I don't have anything bad to say about My Name is Earl. Crabman is awesome and I'm a longtime fan of Jason Lee (although less so since I found out he's a scientologist). My problem is with the GED quiz on NBC's website to promote the show. I like to do puzzles and internet quizzes (Pathetically, I get some sort of satisfaction when I do well. I guess I like feeling like I am at least as smart as the average bear.), so I was quick to start the GED "fun" quiz. And then I came to this…

QuestionNine

I did the math three times coming up with the same answer and then a fourth time rounding my decimals differently. My answer is not among the choices, so I asked the boy to do the math and he came up with the same answer as I did. So… what did we do wrong? Or is the quiz wrong? Does anyone else come up with the same answer as us? $2.31?

It hurts my head. AND… that's not the only question that I stumbled with! Question Number 6 reads, "A certain number decreased by 4 is equal to 8 increased by the quotient of the same number and 5. What is the number?" I plugged the supplied answers into my little equation and still couldn't come up with anything that made sense, so I have no idea if the right answer is on the quiz or not. I even wiki'd "quotient." Eh… if you're interested or can explain… the answer choices were -3, -1, 5, 10 and 15.

I'll go take an aspirin now.

On some level this kid is definitely my "idol"…

Posted by the boy on Thursday, May 3rd, 2007 @ 6:43 am | permalink

So old, I know, but oh so good. So fucking good. When he "sings", "I have seen the most beautiful light, since my birth it's been possessing my mind…", it gets me every time. I literally get it stuck in my head - fumbled timing and all. The first time he loses his breath is fucking classic, too. He really sounds like he's actually in grave danger or something. Yikes. His only mistake was smiling and laughing at the end. Shame, shame, shame.

And this marks my first post in nearly a month. Pathetic. Completely pathetic.

Kurt Vonnegut's favorite joke…

Posted by the girl on Thursday, April 12th, 2007 @ 12:39 pm | permalink

"He's up in heaven now."

sadAs an agnostic, Vonnegut found the humor and ability to both honor and celebrate life. I generally accept the circle of life with little fanfare. So, I was surprised to find myself tearing up when I read of Vonnegut's passing. It is a reminder that I need to take the time to enjoy the wit and wisdom of a well-lived life… and even more that perhaps I need to make an effort to live my own life well.

self-portraitThe boy just discovered Vonnegut's genius last September and wrote a post about it. Vonnegut wrote one of my all-time favorite books, Welcome to the Monkey House. He was 84, so he lived a long life, but I always felt like he should be more revered and more widely read. Eh… tonight he will be. At least by me. Feel free to do the same (read some Vonnegut, I mean… it'll do you some good).

"Deep" thoughts…

Posted by the boy on Monday, April 9th, 2007 @ 8:47 am | permalink

I'm bored and I've got nothing to say.

Since I have nothing else (and never anything of real value) to say:

• Easter sucks. I hate it. Dumbest "holiday" ever.

• "Shooter" was fucking awesome. Easily one of the best action movies of the last decade.

• "Grindhouse" was fucking awesome, even though I think I liked the fake trailers better than either of the movies. Kurt "Jack Burton" Russell is the fucking man, though.

• When I was 17 or 18 or something like that, a friend of mine played me a tape of a goofy acoustic song that he had recorded with a buddy of his. The song was called "Herbert", and there was actually a line in the song that said:

He used to take his mama's douche bottle… he made rubber band guns out of it, rubber band guns out of it!

Said line was harmonized, and it remains one of the greatest things I have ever heard in my entire fucking life. I still hear that song in my head all the time to this day. They had another one called "Broccoli Chair", but "Herbert" was the real gem. Efforts were made in subsequent years to obtain said tape so that I could properly document its brilliance on CD-R, but sadly… we failed. And I'll never forgive myself.
